Step 1: Drain the Pool
We use high-volume water pumps to quickly drain your pool so we can assess the shell and stabilize it against water table pressure. If groundwater is present beneath the pool, we drill a relief hole at the deepest point. Certain pools may require additional dewatering techniques such as well pointing. We walk you through any extra steps or costs before we start.
Step 2: Vapor Blast the Surface
We use a glass-based vapor blasting system to prepare the surface for the new finish. This is the cleanest, most efficient way to sand a fiberglass pool — it reaches every contour with minimal impact on the pool shell. If an existing coating is present, we remove it completely so the new finish chemically bonds to the original substrate.
Step 3: Mask the Pool Deck
We meticulously mask the deck with poly tape and 4-mil plastic to protect it from overspray. We’ll ask you to either remove patio furniture or consolidate it into a designated area so we have clear working space and your belongings stay clean.
Step 4: Clean & Apply Gel Coat
We wipe down the entire pool surface with acetone to remove any contaminants, then spray a top-tier marine-grade gel coat enhanced with additives we’ve chosen to maximize hardness and durability. This is the single most important step — and where other companies often cut corners.
Step 5: Apply the Pebble Finish
We then apply our signature pebble finish: multi-color gel coat bursts in a dot pattern that create a textured, non-porous, rock-hard surface. The finish hides minor imperfections and gives the water a vivid, Caribbean-blue color.
Step 6: Remove Masking & Clean Up
We peel back all protective plastic, clean the pool and surrounding area, and haul away every piece of debris. You’re left with a spotless work zone and a brand-new-looking pool.
Step 7: Fill the Pool with Water
Twenty-four hours after the gel coat is applied, you can begin refilling the pool. We’ll send after-care instructions with the exact fill time and guidance on balancing pH, alkalinity, and chlorine.
Step 8: Enjoy Your Pool
About one week after we start, your pool is ready to use again — with a finish built to last for years.
